@daily.historian: Winston Churchill drafted an essay on the possibility of extraterrestrial life around 1939, revising it while wartime leadership consumed his days, with publication associated with 1942. Working from then-current astronomy, he asked whether other stars might host planets in habitable zones and whether life could arise there beyond Earth. The piece sat oddly beside the Blitz, Atlantic convoys, and the German threat to Britain, yet it fits Churchill's long habit of scientific curiosity alongside grand strategy and cabinet war rooms. Franklin D. Roosevelt and Churchill together managed the Anglo-American core of the Allied coalition after December 1941. Their correspondence and conferences subordinated almost every diversion to production, landing craft, Lend-Lease, and the defeat of the Axis. An essay about life beyond Earth was exactly the sort of intellectual aside that wartime triage could not indulge, however sincerely Churchill wondered while bombs fell on London and ports burned. https://www.chu.cam.ac.uk/archives/collections/churchill-papers/ https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/education/resources/churchill-wartime/ https://www.fdrlibrary.org/churchill

Churchill was as strategically inept as Mussolini, as Fulharty as General Patton and starved roughly the same amount of people as Joseph Stalin, and everybody loves him, even though he’s literally a evil British Forrest Gump, for real if you can think of a horrible thing, the British did during his lifetime. There’s a solid 50% chance he was connected to it in a non-trivial way.

Churchills ONLY saving grace was the lend lease act which gave American corporations a foot in the door to the war in Europe supply wise. That also explains how we had mass production before we even entered the war officially in 1941, because we were already doing it for everybody else first.

everyone trying to clown Churchill when the only reason The U.S. had any interest in getting involved in Europe was the United Kingdom, if the U.K. was out of the fight, America likely would've put their full weight on the Pacific.
