Witch Hat Atelier is such a queer, inclusive and unapologetically woke manga, and the fandom reflects that. The two most popular ships already have real romantic feelings involved and are being written like actual slow burns. The constant “why can’t they just be friends?” whining is exhausting. literally a few hours ago my sister made a ship edit to a very unpopular ship in her fandom between 2 male best friends (unpopular because one of the characters is in a canonical gay relationship) and got a comment of someone saying "well actually it's so weird, *the name of the second character in the ship* is very obviously straight". Of course, my sister got really mad and dragged me into it (I didn't mind, I'm very protective of her and her edits). The argument was kinda boring, except for the fact that at some point that person said that I started this argument (mf, you left the comment first, don't be surprised that when you come talking shit about the ship the video is about, the target audience will get mad) but I only have 1 question: why were they so mad over it 😭? I'm not even talking about the fact that at least my sister said she smelled some gay tension between them (at least from 1 of the characters), but seriously, if you don't like a non-problematic ship, there's no need in making everyone know about it under an edit of said ship

the funniest part about them complaining about "why can't they be friends/why can we have bromance anymore" is that the thing about Olruggio and Qifrey is that they ARE friends. they have ALWAYS been friends. the only caveat is that it was never JUST friendship between the two of them. their entire story mirrors a romantic fable about how magic was born into the world. the sacrifice of Olruggio done time and time again. the soft way Qifrey refers to Olruggio as the world's kindest, most radiant star. the way Olruggio is everything he cannot have but keeps close as the most fucked up punishment. the way Olruggio will always remember and always give regardless of it and chooses to stay, bc it's not a sacrifice to him to keep Qifrey safe but a given out of the love he has for Qifrey. Olruggio chose to stop at the 4th test bc all he needed was independence to do what he loves and become Qifrey's Watchful Eye to help him. Qifrey's reciprocation is done wholly within its limits and even that is dangerous for him to do. these mfs have always been friends, but they were also always MORE than friends. it's right there in the text. like if u wanna read/watch that shit with your eyes closed that's on u, but c'mon now 💀💀💀 u gonna do this about the least platonic friends imaginable??
