yall its not $64 or $1200 its the fee for the APPLICATION for permanent residency. they will still fail you if you don't fulfill the criteria. (live here for 10 years, work for 5, have 30 years worth of pension payments, not be late on tax payments, have JLPT N2 etc) its NOT easy to live here. no one can just pay the fee and live here

lol, this is just the fee increase. you still need to follow other legal methods of getting a visa first and there are few options to actually get permanent residency.

You have to understand that for japans average salary, 200.000 yen is very expensive. Not only that you forgot to mention that visa renew fee is up to 60.000. Imagine a family of five that has an income of 300.000 in the entire household. It’s great for those people that come from the USA or Canada, but for people that come from Philippines, Taiwan and Brazil AND have been living in Japan for some time, it’s pretty distressing. A lot of people are very desperate and don’t know what to do.

If you are living in Japan, 200.000¥ is an extremely high price. For most prefectures, that is more than the minimum wage pay for one month. If you are living in a smaller prefecture like Okinawa, and working a minimum wage job, that is almost two times your monthly salary. Plus you need to remember that you have to live there for 10 years before you can apply for PR, which means you’ll have to pay to renew your visa (every 2-5 years), and they increased the prices of that too.

Yeah it’s not fucking cheap if you get paid in yen. Which, if you live here, you will be. You also have to live here for 10 years, and they’ve now added a stricter language proficiency requirement.
