As a restaurant owner, I can tell you, with 1,000,000% certainty than we are less busy that we were in 2024. And not just a little worse, like 30%+ worse. There have been seven closings in the last six months in my relatively small market. I like to use the “Texas Roadhouse” metric. Last year, the average wait time for a two-top at Roadhouse on a Friday/Saturday was 90-120 minutes in my town. Last night? It was 15-25 minutes. *and* it was homecoming for two local high schools, so it should have been even busier.

Simple solution to his simple question…. Look at household debt, credit debit, auto delinquencies, small business bankruptcy rates, etc… there are lots of indicators other than “packed” restaurants and the eyeball test

I just paid $300 for about 3/4 full of groceries that normally would have cost $200. The biggest jump was for fruits/vegetables and meat.

Here is my take as a non-American. It’s very relative, the American economy is still the envy of the world, and you are still by far the richest nation. Your wealth is in the depth and texture of your country. The American economy is anything but bad.

Fast food/restaurants SEEM more crowded because most places now have fewer employees and less help so things aren’t moving as fast.

I guess I’m coming out ahead every month. But it’s because I dropped my health insurance and I live alone, own my older car and my mobile home. I will never be able to retire cause I got no 401k or stocks. Just vote 💙🌊🇺🇸
