Within seconds, the net wraps around the rotating tire and a tether extends between the two vehicles. The Grappler works by using the target vehicle’s own wheel rotation to rapidly pull the high-strength net around the tire and axle area. Once captured, the tether allows the pursuing officer to help control and slow the vehicle rather than relying solely on a high-speed pursuit or conventional vehicle contact. Designed as a vehicle pursuit termination system, the Grappler gives law enforcement another method for bringing certain fleeing vehicles to a stop. Its mechanical approach converts the target wheel’s rotation into the action that captures it, allowing the system to engage without requiring officers to exit their vehicle.
