had a friend (after multiple months of living in and out of the hospital with a child with cancer) reflected on her experience said her requests would have included a snuggie blanket with sleeves or super giant hoodie, pre charged battery packs for phones/ipads, gift cards for restaurants who will deliver, comfortable slippers with good rubber soles, one of those neck pillows that are U shaped, scent free lotions/hygeine items, a way to play ambient music/speaker/white noise machine, the offer to take their laundry home to wash, fold, and return it, sound reducing ear plugs like loops, single serve snacks (think shelf stable, lunch basics), single serve protien shakes (if you ask nicely, many burses will stash it in a fridge for you in their break room), a decent duffle bag with packing cubes so you can move to another room easy when moved to step down/regular room

Please let her know about Ronald McDonald's House. They were amazing when my niece was in thr hospital for months. Ronald McDonald's House has meals every day even for drop in for families.

ear plugs, and there is refrigeratation and microwave some where. Scent therapy, and someone to sit with my child so she can nap. I'm a nurse and I know for a fact that there is a refrigerator and a microwave somewhere. bring like Campbell's soups that can be microwaved and they're in a container that you can just drink it right out of it

also, you absolutely can move into an ICU/hospital room. people do it all the time because they know their visit won’t be brief. it just needs to stay organized and out of the providers’ and nurses’ way! I use one of those big plastic three drawer things and will store some clothes in one, activities/comfort items in one, and snacks/shelf stable meals and drinks!

I agree with food delivery cards, but if she’s too stressed out to eat, I really like fairlife chocolate protein drinks. They’re by far the best tasting protein drinks.

Snacks, toiletries, phone charger. Great idea for you to stay with the child while she takes a break. Also offer to feed her pets, water plants, collect her mail. We were lucky enough to be able to trade off with each other so one of us could go home to shower and sleep.

I spent alot of time in a hospital with a sick child. Things I liked having are a cozy blanket, chapstick, hand cream, and nice bath towels (the ones the hospital gives u to use are horrible)

I've been that mom. clean clothes pillow, blanket from home, phone charger, laptop and laptop charger books, favorite snacks, water bottle. it doesn't really help but it at least lets you know you're not alone and gives you some touchstones that are familiar

Fleece blanket, a feather pillow and ear plugs. I actually put the fleece blanket under the fitted sheet so the vinyl doesn’t squeak when I roll over. Usually there is a fridge and freezer for family food.

fancy markers and a simple adult coloring book too, maybe a journal with a nice pen. our bodies can rest even when we aren’t sleeping!

food delivery gift cards are also really helpful, and asking her what needs to be done at her home while they are gone (catch up on laundry, throw out expired food, clean, change sheets, etc) and what she wants from her home to be at the hospital!!

I am a single mom. when I found out my daughter had asthma, out of nowhere she was in the hospital for a week( not exactly the same , I know). a change of clothing would have been great. I was stuck in the same leggings and t shirt basically the whole time. if she's not eating, snacks would be good. granola bars, fruit snacks, chips, or healthy hand held thing. meals are probably out of the question but a granola bar type thing might be more palatable. if it's possible move the bed and love seat closer together. my daughter started out in the ICU and the nurses were nice enough to help me move the bed chair next to my daughter's bed so I could hold her hand while we were sleeping. an insulated water bottle or cup also. staying hydrated is tough but important for everyone. slippers probably. something that's shoe like (hard bottomed), but comfy. maybe a book, something she can read out loud maybe. it'll be a small distraction from the situation for both of them.

I wonder if someone can get her some sleep buds. But also fairlife protein shakes. Maybe ask what she wants to eat and maybe cook it for her or pick up at a restaurant. You are already offering the best thing which is your time 💕 prayers for the family.

Favorite jammies or hoody and comfy pants save for public. Comfy blanket, cash for food in cafeteria. Shampoo and bodwash if your lucky enough to have a bathroom access. Slippers cause shoes can get uncomfortable after a while. If mom has a favorite comfort meal bring it. i spent a week at childrens with my daughter. My mom brought me basic toiletries and the nurses let me use the shower in the room. The nurses also gave me pillows and blankets while i slept on a lounge chair. Look and see if they have a Ronaldo McDonald's house nearby.

As a mom who has been in this position and an old employee there. There is a fridge for families to keep stuff. Yes to a face mask, offer to sit there for her to go home for a real shower, pack her own things, and honestly (it’s very needed to step away), loop ear plugs, food gift cards, fav snacks, they do have a washer & dryer if needed, coffee/caffeine of choice, emotional support, a journal for her to write questions, concerns, positive milestone during the stay, & feelings. My guess is kiddo is on the burn unit and they have the best staff up there. She can ask for anything and they will help her get it too.
