It bothered me so much that Nick was deaf before he could talk as a child, and yet he can read lips. Like think about that for one second, he doesn’t know what words sound like, how would that be possible? In fact DONT get me started on the reading lips of it all in media generally but like if you must have that then just say he went deaf later on.

I was so sad when 90s Nick dies and that scene where he tries to warn everyone to get out of the house and yells is so heartbreaking. I liked the new version but definitely did not have the same punch at all when 2020 Nick dies.

OH MY GOD I NEVER REALIZED THAT WAS SHAWNEE SMITH!!! Also, I was 13 when the 90s mini series came out, and it's the reason I first read The Stand, so I could never hate it. But I do agree with your analysis.

I was so sad that neither movie held up how wonderful Nick was. He was so fleshed out in the book. I still think of him on November 14 (his birthday) and I read that book in the early 90s. Back then, I had cast the lead singer of Toad the Wet Sprocket as Nick. I stand by that choice. Rob Lowe really disappointed me, and then barely getting Nick's story at all in the 2020 version, double disappointed.

I'm one of the rare people who hasn't read the book nor seen either adaptation & yet still watch the videos. I just really enjoy your style of talking. I think it might be worth a read now.

I was so annoyed at how they did Nick in the 2020 version and I haven’t even seen the one from the 90s. I’m convinced no one involved in the production of the 2020 one actually knows any Deaf people because in WHAT WORLD are Deaf people 100% silent and professional lip readers???? I took a Deaf Studies class in college after my younger brother started attending the state school for the Deaf and one thing that really came up a lot was how HARD it was to accurately lip read

I am a little bias because Rob Lowe has been my celebrity crush since I was a kid, but I totally agree that the 2020 version gave him nothing. I love Nick in both the book and the 90s adap, and they gave nothing for the 2020 to build any like or dislike.
