@editt_2k26: 🇫🇷 For people outside France who don’t understand what is happening: For several days, high school students across France have been protesting for better conditions in schools: more teachers, better-maintained buildings, fewer students per class, less pressure and shorter/heavier school schedules. What started as school blockades has rapidly grown into a nationwide movement. 📈 Thursday, October 1st was the biggest day so far: 1,027 schools were affected, including 222 blockades. 1,949 people were arrested and 305 police officers and gendarmes were injured that day. Le Monde.fr +1 🔥 But in some cities, the protests also turned violent, with fires, damage to schools and clashes with police. The government responded by deploying riot police and mobile gendarmes across the country. Le Monde.fr 🏫 Friday, October 2nd: around 400 high schools were closed, while many others switched to online classes. In total, 735 schools were affected that day, with violence reported around 158 of them. 1,747 people were arrested on Friday, bringing the total to more than 5,000 arrests since Monday. Le Monde.fr +1 🚁 In Toulouse, one of France’s major cities, the situation became particularly tense around the Déodat-de-Séverac high school. Police and riot police were deployed in large numbers, public transport was disrupted, and a Gendarmerie helicopter was sent over the school to monitor the situation. Around 70 people were arrested in Haute-Garonne on Friday, including 65 in the Toulouse area, and 10 police/gendarmerie personnel were injured. ladepeche.fr +1 ⚠️ Important: the protests and the violence are not the same thing. Many students are protesting peacefully for educational reforms, while some incidents have involved people committing violence or damaging property. Student organizations have also called for the movement to continue while condemning the violence. Le Monde.fr This is what is currently happening in France. 🇫🇷 #france #fyp #actu #manifestation #lycee
