Some premium credit cards sound different when they hit a table because they’re made from metal instead of plastic. Cards from companies like American Express often use stainless steel or metal composites. The added mass and rigidity create a sharper, louder sound when the card contacts a hard surface. Plastic cards absorb more vibration, which makes the sound duller and quieter. Metal cards also feel heavier in the hand, which is intentional. Premium card issuers design them this way because the physical weight subtly signals exclusivity and status. It’s a small design detail, but one that turns a simple payment card into a recognizable object. #finance #creditcard #designengineering #economics
