**REMEMBERING MY SISTER, MERCY 🕊️🤍** I have struggled to find the right words to explain what happened to Mercy, because even writing this still feels unreal. Mercy was not just a friend to me. **She was like a sister.** We met at KCA University, and somewhere along the way, the friendship we built became much bigger than friendship. We became family. We graduated together, and even after university, the bond never faded. By good fortune, we also lived around Embakasi. For those who know Donholm, you know it has different phases, so we weren't exactly door-to-door neighbours, but we were from the same area. That gave us another reason to remain close. Even as life became busy and everyone started chasing their own dreams, we never stopped checking up on each other. Sometimes it was a random call or message just to ask, *“Uko aje?”* Somehow, those little moments kept us connected. Mercy was one of the smartest women I have ever met. She was genuinely intelligent, kind, decent and humble. Her character naturally attracted people to her, and she made many friends wherever she went. Most importantly, she was a God-fearing woman. She had a good heart, and the people around her knew it. On **Thursday, 1st October 2026**, Mercy called me and asked if I would be free on Friday so that we could go and check on a friend of hers who was sick. I told her, *“No problem, we can go.”* It wasn't because I had no plans. It was because that was simply how we were with each other. **When one of us needed the other, we showed up.** We always made room for each other. Then on **Friday morning, 2nd October**, around 6 a.m., she called me. She told me, *“You know what, I have changed my plans. Since we agreed yesterday to go and check on someone, I'll just call and find out how they are doing over the phone.”* I asked her why she had changed her mind. She explained that the previous night, some of her friends had made plans to travel to **Mombasa for the weekend**, returning on Sunday, and they were travelling by private car. It was not something she had planned beforehand. Her friends had simply remembered her and asked her to join them. And that was Mercy. She had good friends because **she was good to people**. She had people who remembered her, valued her and wanted her around. I told her to at least check on the sick friend and give me feedback before she left. **She never called back.** At around **3 p.m. that same day**, I received a call from a friend of ours, someone we also went to university with. That call brought me the darkest news I could ever have imagined. **Mercy was gone.** Up to this moment, I am still trying to process it. It is difficult to accept that someone I spoke to that morning, someone I was making plans with, someone I expected to hear from again, is no longer here. Life can change in a single phone call. Mercy, you were more than my friend. **You were my sister, my family, and someone I will forever be grateful that life allowed me to meet.** We knew each other at KCA University, built a bond that survived graduation, distance and the busyness of life, and somehow remained family until your last days. I will never forget you. I will be there for you **until the last hour**, just as I would have been there for you in life. I will update you all on the burial arrangements, where she will be laid to rest, and everything concerning her final journey. **Rest in peace, Mercy. 🕊️🤍** You were loved. You were valued. You were family. And you will never be forgotten.
