I feel this way. My mom is in active addiction. For decades I was abandoning my post. I went to bed wondering if it was the last day i’d ever hear her voice. That motivated me to chase her. The guilt I had because I felt like I needed to be there every moment, meanwhile the toxicity broke me from the inside out. I now stay standing. I feel better in soo many ways, for once I feel happiness. But it meant abandoning that ship. She’s still alive, but I mourn her every day as if she has passed🥺. She’s been in active addiction for at least 40 years. I don’t think she will ever be able to overcome it, but I hope every single day that she does🥺
