@_dove99: Lena's suitcase had become a permanent piece of furniture with it living beside the bedroom wardrobe now. Sometimes it stayed closed for a week. Sometimes Lena came home from one trip, emptied half of it into the washing machine and started packing again before she'd even properly unpacked. Miu never complained. At first, she hadn't minded. Lena had travelled for work when they'd met. It was part of the job. Singapore for two nights. Seoul. Hong Kong. Tokyo. Kuala Lumpur. London once. They'd made it work. Video calls from hotel rooms. Messages from airport lounges. Photographs of terrible room-service dinners. Miu would sometimes wake up to a picture of a sunrise from another country with: -Wish you were here. And she'd smile. Because Lena always came home. That had been enough…for a while. Then the trips became more frequent. Three days away. Two days home. Five days away. One weekend together. Gone again. Their relationship slowly started being measured in arrivals and departures. They stopped making plans more than a week ahead because Lena's schedule changed constantly. Dinner reservations were cancelled. Miu's cousin got married and Lena missed the ceremony because her flight was delayed. Their anniversary dinner happened three days late. And Miu never complained. She told herself Lena wasn't choosing work over her, she was just working. There was a difference. . “You're packing again?” Lena looked over her shoulder to find Miu stood in the bedroom doorway wearing one of Lena's old shirts, hair still messy from sleep. The suitcase was open on the couch as Lena glanced down at it. “Jakarta.” “When?” “Tomorrow morning.” Miu nodded. “How long?” “Three nights.” “Okay.” Lena frowned and Miu disappeared into the bathroom. . Three nights became four as the flight home was delayed. Lena arrived after midnight on Friday to see Miu was asleep on the sofa. Lena smiled when she saw her and she put her bag down quietly, crouched beside the sofa and brushed Miu's hair away from her face. Miu stirred. “You're home.” She mumbled. “I'm home.” Miu smiled sleepily and Lena kissed her. “Come to bed.” Miu wrapped her arms around Lena's neck instead. “Missed you.” Lena's expression softened. “Missed you too.” For a few minutes, none of it mattered. The flights. The time apart. The half-empty suitcase. Lena was home and that was enough. Until Sunday evening. Miu walked into the bedroom and found the suitcase open again. Lena glanced at her. “Chiang Mai.” Miu stared at the clothes spread across the bed. “When?” “Tomorrow.” A small laugh escaped Miu but not because anything was funny. Lena noticed. “What?” “Nothing.” “Miu.” “It's fine.” “It doesn't sound fine.” Miu picked up one of Lena's folded shirts and placed it inside the case. “How long?” “Just three nights, but I land late on Thursday.” Miu nodded, then folded another shirt. Lena caught her wrist gently. “Hey.” Miu looked at her. “What?” “Talk to me.” Miu pulled her hand free. “There's nothing to talk about.” “You're upset.” “I'm tired.” Miu sighed. “Of what?” Miu looked towards the suitcase. “It’s fine, finish packing.” Then she left the room. . The following morning came far to quickly for Miu’s liking. At six-thirty, Lena's suitcase stood by the front door and at six-forty, her phone buzzed. -Your driver has arrived. Lena glanced through the window to see a black car waiting downstairs. Miu was in the kitchen making coffee and Lena walked in already wearing her coat. “I'm leaving.” Miu nodded. “Okay.” Lena hesitated. Usually this was when Miu came over. A kiss. A hug. But this time Miu simply stirred her coffee. Lena walked closer. “Miu. What’s wrong?” “I'm fine.” “You keep saying that.” “Because you keep asking.” Lena's phone buzzed again but she ignored it. “Miu, talk to me.” Miu stared into her coffee. Lena waited and finally, Miu set the spoon down. “I'm tired of saying goodbye.” She whispered. CONTINUATION IN COMMENTS ⬇️ #lenamiu #ThaiGL #wlw #wlwau

PART 2️⃣ Twenty minutes later, Miu was sitting on the sofa when the front door opened and Lena walked in.
Miu shot to her feet. “What happened?”
Lena closed the door and left the suitcase beside the door where it had been twenty minutes earlier.
Miu's heart started beating faster. “What about your flight?”
“There'll be another flight.”
Miu stared. “Lena...”
Lena walked towards her. “There's only one you.”
Miu's expression crumpled. “What did you do?”
“Cancelled it.”
“You can't just cancel.”
“I just did.” Lena shrugged.
“Your meeting…”
“It’s being rescheduled for someone else.”
“Lena.”
“My boss is furious but I don’t care.” Lena stopped in front of her. “What I care about was hearing my girlfriend tell me she doesn't know how many more times she can watch me leave her.”
Miu looked down. “I wasn't asking you to cancel.”
“I know.”
“I don't want you ruining your career because of me.”
“I'm not.” Lena gently tilted her chin up. “I'm fixing my priorities because I love you and I want to build a family with you.”
Miu's eyes filled again and Lena wiped beneath one with her thumb.
“I got in the car and we made it about ten minutes.” Lena laughed softly. “And all I could think about was your face. I kept telling myself I'd call you from the airport. We'd talk tonight. I'd make it up to you when I got home.”
Lena shook her head. “Then I realised that's exactly what I've been doing for months already. I keep promising to make things up to you when I get home but then I’m never home to do that. So I told the driver to turn around.”
A tear slipped down Miu's cheek. “You really cancelled?”
“Yes.”
“Just like that?”
“Not exactly. There was a slightly unpleasant phone call involved.” Lena winced.
Miu laughed through her tears and Lena smiled. “But completely worth it.”

PART 1️⃣ Miu looked up at her and there were no tears, somehow that made it worse.
“I know it's your job.”
“Miu…”
“I know.” She folded her arms. “And I know you're not doing anything wrong.”
Lena stayed silent. “But every time you come home, I'm already thinking about when you're leaving again.” Miu laughed quietly. “We don't even unpack your suitcase properly anymore.”
Lena looked towards the hallway, the suitcase stood waiting beside the door. “I feel like I'm dating you between flights. It doesn’t feel like we’re building a life together anymore.”
That hurt.
Lena swallowed. “I didn't realise it had got that bad.” Lena knew she’d been travelling a lot lately but it just started feeling like the new normal.
“I didn't tell you.”
“Why?”
“Because what am I supposed to say? Stop working?”
“You could tell me you're unhappy.”
Silence settled between them.
Outside, the car waited.
Lena's phone buzzed again and Miu glanced at it. “You need to go.”
Lena didn't move.
Miu's voice dropped. “But I’m not sure how many more of these I can do.” Lena stared at her with heartbreak that made Miu want to look away. “I love you.” Miu whispered. “I love you so much. But I don't want our entire relationship to be me waiting for you to come back.”
Lena's eyes filled and Miu hated seeing it. “Lena…” She started but was cut off by Lena stepping forward, cupping her face and kissing her.
Miu froze for a moment then kissed her back.
Lena held her for another second before pulling away and resting her forehead against Miu's. “I love you.”
Miu's throat tightened. “I love you too.”
Lena kissed her forehead as her phone buzzed again. She let out a sigh and pulled away. “We’ll talk more when I get back.” She gave Miu one more soft kiss before walking over to her suitcase.
Then apartment door closed behind her.
Miu stood completely still before looking at the untouched second cup of coffee on the counter.
Miu's eyes finally filled. “Okay then.” She wiped them angrily as she carried Lena's untouched coffee to the sink and poured it away.

PART 3️⃣ Miu looked towards the suitcase. “What happens next week? You have the Beijing trip.”
Lena took both her hands. “I'm going to speak to work. I travel because I let them send me everywhere. I've always said yes because I thought that's what my job required.”
“Isn't it?”
“Some of it.” Lena nodded. “But not all of it.”
She squeezed Miu's hands. “There are trips other people can take. Meetings I can do remotely. And when I do have to travel, we plan it together.”
Miu looked uncertain. “I don't want you resenting me.”
“I won't.”
“You don't know that.”
“Yes I do and I definitely know I don't want to come home one day and find out you got tired of waiting.”
Miu's face crumpled and Lena immediately pulled her into her arms. “I would have waited.” Miu mumbled into her shoulder.
“I know. That's part of the problem.”
Miu buried her face against her neck.
For a few minutes they both just stood there holding each other.
No flight to catch.
No driver downstairs.
No countdown running in the back of Miu's mind.
Eventually Miu pulled away. “You know your coffee is gone.”
Lena looked horrified. “You poured it away?”
“I thought you'd left.”
“That doesn't mean you waste coffee.”
Miu stared at her and Lena smiled. “Idiot.”
Miu went to slap her arm but Lena caught her hand and kissed her palm. “I'm staying.”
“Today?”
Lena nodded. “Today.” Then kissed her fingers. “And tomorrow.” A kiss to her wrist “And the day after that.”
Miu's smile slowly returned. “You've got work.”
“I’m owed some time off. I’ve made them millions in the past few years and then after that I can work from home some days.”
“I've got work.”
“So I’ll drop you off, annoy you by text all day and then pick you up.” Lena grinned.
“Normal relationship stuff?”
“Exactly.”

FINAL 4️⃣ Miu stepped closer again. “So what are we going to do with an entire unexpected day together?”
Lena glanced towards the bedroom and Miu immediately narrowed her eyes. “Behave.”
“I didn't say anything.”
“You didn't have to.”
Lena laughed and wrapped both arms around her waist. “Breakfast?”
“Perfect.” Miu smiled.
“Before I forget.” Lena begins. “About that Berlin trip in four weeks.”
Miu’s face drops slightly. “Yeah.”
“There’s no way for me to get out of that. I’m the only senior consultant available to go.”
“Okay.” Miu swallows. “I understand…”
“But.” Lena gently interrupts. “I was wondering if you’d come with me. I only have to work three days, so maybe we could extend and go explore. It’s been a while since we took a trip together. I’ve looked and all the Christmas markets will be there.” Lena finishes with a hopeful smile.
“You want me to come with you?”
Lena nods. “I’d love nothing more.”
Miu looks at Lena’s hopeful eyes and feels herself fill with love at how much Lena’s already trying. Miu spoke her feelings and feels out loud less than 30 minutes ago and Lena has already changed her entire work life to fit Miu back in, to work toward fixing what has been broken over the past year.
“Okay.” Miu nods. “I’ll come.”
“Yesss.” Lena lifted Miu and began to spin her.
Miu laughed and Lena kissed her.
This time there was nothing sad about it.
No goodbye waiting at the end.
No car outside.
No departure board counting down somewhere.
Just Lena's hands around her waist and Miu smiling against her mouth.
When they eventually separated, Lena looked towards the suitcase by the door, then back at Miu. “Looks like we’ll need another one of them.”
