@civilstudyline: Roads may look similar from the surface, but their internal structure can be completely different depending on the pavement system. Flexible pavement is typically built with asphalt over several granular layers. These layers work together to gradually transfer vehicle loads down toward the subgrade. Rigid pavement uses a concrete slab as its main structural element. Because concrete is much stiffer, it can distribute traffic loads across a wider area before transferring them to the layers below. Permeable pavement works differently. Its surface allows rainwater to pass through into open-graded aggregate layers underneath, where the water can temporarily be stored and gradually drain into the ground. This can help reduce surface runoff and water accumulation. The pavement surface is only what we see — most of the engineering is hidden underneath.
