I turn this off at other peoples house in the dead of night. It’s a service I provide without knowledge or consent

The main thing that bothers me is the damn sound on most movies/tv shows these days. Will be super quiet then blow your ears out the next second

What bothers me more is so many TV shows being so dark that it’s hard to see.

omg i will also die on this hill. WHY Tvs come with this as a default is actually insane to me- there is objectively no reason for this stupid setting.

omg thats what it is? I always complained about the soap opera looking movies and shows. it was so uncanny and ugly to me. I couldn't enjoy the movie because I couldn't stop thinking about how it looked. im so glad theres a real reason and it wasnt just me.

“Like a soap opera” omg I’ve always thought that!! And I remember when TVs started becoming really HD in the 2000s- we never had one, but I’d go to friends’ houses and stuff and this effect was always weird to me, but I was like “hmm okay, I guess I just don’t know how it is because I’m not used to it 🤷🏾” lol

My issue with movies is sound. I was watching Project Hail Mary the other day and some of the dialogue scenes were so soft compared to the movie score. I’d turn up my surround sound system to hear the dialogue, and then have to cover my ears and comfort the dog when a sweeping vista would appear with a thunderous score. Can we please normalize sound levels?

You are kinda trying to make a point saying; “smooth playback is bad, it should be choppy” and that’s just weird. If the original recording is 60fps it beats the 24fps in display quality and viewing experience.

I don’t see anything wrong with the video you’re showing. Looks normal to me except the subtitles 😂

“Your brain is always going to interpret movies at 24 fps” - you had me until this point. Our brains don’t see frames, they do their own interpolation on a constant stream of light information. I prefer no interpolation on most movies, but for fast paced scenes or wide pans higher frame rate absolutely has a place. The jitteriness of those scenes often gives me eye strain enough to look away. I don’t think AI interpolation is the answer and high quality movies absolutely do better at their original frame rate, but personally I have my TV motion smoothing set to “Low” and find it gives me the best experience. My TV turns it off automatically when I switch to a game console to reduce input lag and that’s perfect for me.

This is 1000% my biggest gripe! Every time I go to someone’s house everything looks like a bad soap opera. Sadly what you stated is they like it this way and can’t tell difference:(
