Of all the wonderful gifts from the Father, the Sabbath has been neglected most, and this is because we have never understood the mighty blessings of accepting this gift. Having a day set apart away from our daily business of all work just to commune and rest is the most blessed gift that the Lord has given man. The scripture says Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: According to Jesus, the sabbath was made for men, it’s God’s most precious and perfect gift to men. But why have we neglected the gift of the Sabbath? A gift is never accepted unless the receiver knows the value of the gift. For the receiver must know the heart of the giver and therefore consider how much this gift is valuable to him or her. To many, the sabbath is looked on as mere prayer day, not an experience with God and so a spirit instead of communion with God, we have ended not supping with the Master. The scripture says Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and *will sup with him, and he with me.* The Sabbath is not just a mere service or routine of not going away from your daily business, rather a time to sup, to partake of Christ in deep communion in his word. In so doing, we are refreshed and restored even in the grace of the Lord. Many Refuse the gift of the Sabbath because they are burdened with so many cares and therefore these cares of life blind their eyes from this wonderful communion of rest. The scripture says The scripture warns about carrying burdens on the Sabbath. I believe the right understanding of the words of Jeremiah should be that God has given us the Sabbath to undo every burden and anxiety. The sabbath is not the time to worry about your empty bank account, your joblessness, your failed education and much more, rather a time to trust in God and surrender burdens to God. You will never experience this blessing of the Sabbath without trusting God with all your tomorrows. The scripture therefore says Matthew 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? In Matthew 6:30, Jesus was giving us the mindset of the Sabbath. The mindset that we should carry every time we are receiving this mighty gift of the Sabbath. We should not worry, we should simply trust in God. By having this understanding, a man will get more and have more from the Sabbath, God’s gift to the sons of men. To be continued!!
