1. Poor occlusion When the teeth don’t meet properly, the jaw may keep trying to find a stable bite. That means the chewing muscles can stay active and work harder to bring the teeth into good contact, which creates ongoing tension. 2. Missing teeth A missing tooth means missing contact. This can change the way someone bites and chews, and in some people it can lead to more clenching and overworking of the jaw muscles. 3. Stress For many people, clenching is a physical response to stress. They may be tightening their jaw throughout the day or grinding their teeth at night without even realizing it. So how do we fix it? Unfortunately, in these situations, we often can’t fix the actual cause - and we shouldn’t promise our clients that we can. What we can actually do is help to manage the symptoms. For the long term, the client may need to see a dentist or orthodontist, have their bite assessed, address missing teeth, or look into other causes of persistent clenching. But those solutions can take time. Sometimes they’re expensive, and they’re not always possible. We can release overworked jaw muscles, relieve tension and discomfort, and teach clients techniques they can use at home to manage the tension between appointments. We may not always be able to remove the cause, but we can help manage the symptoms. #facemassage #jawtension #jawrelease #facialmassage #buccalmassage
