wait, in the usa "homeschooling" means PARENTS teaching kids? not hiring tutors and online schools? here studying at home is sometimes harder than in school

Homeschool CAN be done correctly. It’s uncommon it’s done correctly. I would 100% support homeschool if there were standards that needed to be met.

I have 2 bachelors degrees and a master's degree. And I do not feel qualified to teach my children. But my niece, who barely finished HS, homeschools her kids.

all this time I thought home schooling meant private tutors coming to your 🏠 . I didn't know it was the parents doing the teaching. 🤣

Lots of kids would be better off being homeschooled. So many smart kids get nothing but trauma in school as they fly through easy course work. Really depends on the situation.

i never thought that in the USA, homeschooled mean that the parents are the one teaching. Over here homeschool means youre filthy rich and could afford private tutors

In the 1900’s BK started selling a 1/3 burger. They had to end the promotion, because they thought the QUARTER POUNDER was a bigger burger. ‘Merica.

And it isn’t even about being smart. Teaching is a SKILL. You can be as smart as you want but if you don’t know how to get a child to learn, internalize, and use the knowledge then you aren’t teaching. It doesn’t matter how good you are at regurgitating information if the kids aren’t retaining it.

My kid asked me why I don't home school them. I said for the same reason I don't do my own car repairs or highlight my own hair......I'm not trained for that.

When I was 16 I met our neighbors homeschooled kids. I had to teach them both basic arithmetic so when they got jobs around town, they could figure it how much they were getting paid. One of them couldn’t read. They were 21 and 22.

I homeschool my child. We are furthest thing from religious. We took our daughter out in the middle of sixth grade because she was not doing well in school. There are other reasons that I don’t need to lay out here. She was on a 4th grade level. In a year and a half I got her up to where she should be and next August she will be on a 9th grade level where she should be and not two levels behind as she was in public school. As for socializing, she made a bunch of friends from K-6 grades and still talks to them and hangs with them so I don’t worry about that. The problem was she was too social amongst other things. Not all homeschool kids are dumb or religious.

I‘m a teacher in Germany and here it’s illegal to homeschool your kids… it’s such a strange concept to me like?? How can you make sure your kid even meets specific milestones? How are they supposed to learn social skills? who’s grading them?

teachers where I live have to have masters degrees to teach in the classroom... what makes 99% of these people think they should be homeschooling?

And even if you're smart and good at a particular subject, that doesn't mean you can turn around & *teach* it.
My mom was MENSA & very good at math, but every attempt to tutor ME (outside public school) in math failed.

I was a teacher and hold a degree in education but I wouldn't homeschool. People don't realize school is for more than education.
