I quietly left a company. I went in on a weekend and deleted all of the work I set up such as templates; took my personal items. then emailed a resignation

someone said: I have an old employee,
he's old and can't do the physical work of all the younger employees,
"I don't keep him around to do physical labor, I keep him around because of what he knows"

I have a t-shirt that says, “Nobody knows what I do until I don’t do it.” Used to wear it to work. New CEO came along and started making bad decisions. They found out my shirt was telling the truth. I got calls with questions for more than a year after I “retired.”

This is so typical, as an older worker our experience and relationships with customers doesn't count for crap. Corporations honestly don't care unless it hits their bottom line even then they'll roll the dice and take a chance

Very True. AI can gets things done faster, but will never replace the personalities involved over years in many companies. [Sad]

I was 1 person in a team of 6 research analysts, and between us we had 130 years of institutional knowledge. Mgmt insisted on changes that we recommended against. They did, all 6 of us left, retired. It killed their business which they sold off to competitors less than 3 years for pennies on the dollar. Thats what hiring PhD’s with zero knowledge, experience or common sense can do.

This happened to my mom. She was an accountant/scheduler for an oil company. They replaced her with someone younger(cheaper). Called her 3 weeks later (Texas main office) “X doesn’t know how to do this. X confused two pipelines. Can you please explain to X how to do this”😂 she laughed and said those mistakes sound expensive. 😂 She didn’t go back and retired

Sadly enough companies don’t care how loyal & experienced you are. You’re just a number & replacable!!! Horrible!!!!!
