@lilyforgy: 🤔 To know the truth, in the ordinary sense, is to hold a belief that matches how things actually are, and to hold it for reasons that track that reality rather than wish, habit, or pressure. It is not the same as feeling certain. Someone can be confident and wrong, or hesitant and right; what matters is whether the claim would still stand if the relevant facts, observations, or arguments were checked carefully. In practice this often means distinguishing what is directly supported from what is inferred, remembered, or taken on authority, and staying willing to revise the claim when better evidence appears. Knowing the truth also has a limit. Some questions are settled by measurement or record, others depend on definitions, incomplete information, or contested interpretations, and a few may not be answerable at all with the tools available. In those cases, knowing the truth can mean knowing the strength of the case, the range of live alternatives, and where one's own information stops. It is less a permanent possession than a standard: alignment with what is the case, earned carefully enough that the belief is not an accident.
