This video is historically misleading because it commits a basic error of historical method: it mistakes resemblance for descent.
The mourning rites of Tammuz or Dumuzi belonged to an ancient Mesopotamian religious cult associated with fertility, vegetation and the seasonal cycle. Hussain ibn Ali (عليه السلام), however, was not a fertility deity or mythological figure. He was a real historical person killed at Karbala in 680 CE. Mourning for Hussain (عليه السلام) therefore begins with a specific historical tragedy within early Islamic history, not with a Mesopotamian vegetation cult.
More importantly, physical expressions of grief cannot be labelled “pagan” merely because pagans also practised them. Islamic sources themselves preserve such behaviour. Musnad Ahmad records Aisha saying that after the Prophet’s death she joined the women in lamentation and struck her face. Whatever later jurists may say about the practice is a separate theological question. Historically, the report alone destroys the claim that such an expression of grief must have come from Tammuz worship or pagan ritual.
To establish borrowing, a historian must demonstrate a traceable chain of transmission from the cult of Tammuz to the mourning of Hussain (عليه السلام). No such chain is established by this video.
Tammuz belonged to the cultic world of ancient Mesopotamian fertility and vegetation. Karbala belongs to the documented political and religious history of seventh century Islam.
Similarity is not genealogy. Parallel is not proof of borrowing. This video presents speculation as historical fact, and that is precisely why its conclusion is misleading.
