Reddit can make you feel inadequate when it comes to literally any product you own or hobby you have. I was looking into bidets one time and I found a thread of someone asking about good “starter bidets” and these absolute freaks were recommending $600+ bidets. My point is sometimes you just need to follow your own path without consulting the bidet freaks

It's a real phenomenon that we see all the time in the D&D space. On one hand, I understand that googling simple questions limits the dilution of conversation quality on forums, but on the other isn't this place supposed to be all about community and conversation? I'd rather answer the same question 5 times and make those people feel welcome and part of the group rather than wag a finger at them for being excited about the thing I love.

maybe I've just been on too many hobby forums but to me that's not gatekeeping, it's annoyance at the lack of respect for the space. Imagine bursting into an astrophysics department to share a drawing of your favourite planet. I'm old enough to remember that it was polite to lurk on a forum before posting to get a hang of the conversation norms and such. or maybe I'm the problem😂
