Most of the soldiers don’t even have a choice to be in a war or choose sides and it’s expected of them.

Show had the best cameo for a character doomed to die, and then forced in a cameo and instead let him live. 🤦♂️

I always really liked the Ed Sheeran scene in season 7 bc yeah it’s got him singing for like 10 seconds but then Arya has a really interesting interaction that really contrasts how the events of the show thus far effect everyday people vs the noble characters the show is focused on. It added a really nice layer of complexity without being super violent or crude. Unfortunately Ed Sheeran had to go and keep existing afterwards.

The scene in season 7 where the Lannister soldiers are humanized is very well placed, as it makes Daenerys’s violence against the Lannister forces feel far more brutal

I always said one of the reasons I love GRRM is because with most writers, if you look through a microscope to see tiny pieces of the world, most fantady worlds fall apart. Martin's world gets even better. The example I always gave was the Blackwood Bracken feud.

The Broken Man Speech from the books is so fucking good when looking at soldiers and why so many of them are arguably violent psychos because it says they turn up to war fighting for a lord who doesn't know them, then that lord dies and they join another one they were trying to kill a few weeks ago and this will just continue forever until they break and go insane and violent bandits who are universally hated and that reason why they are like this is why we should pity them as well as hate them

just like in real life, they may have their own hatred towards those outside their clans/kingdom. but they're still just people, not wanting to die because 1 family decided they wanted it.

One scene I still think about is when Ned and Robert were talking about Jon. Like it would be easy to just say they’re best friends and leave it at that but I loved how they showed them being like brothers and it actually feels like two people who went to war together
