“Ivy League” and then cites Stanford, MIT, Berkeley (great schools, not in the Ivy)

Didn’t list a single ivy.

All true. But, unfortunately, I suspect a large part of your audience is about to go off on the Ivy League technicality.

Jensen huang -> Oregon state. Sergey brin -> university of Maryland. Larry page -> university of Michigan. The “brilliant” engineers were disproportionally coming from the elite technical schools (MIT, CMU, Stanford, Berkeley, Cal Tech) and stage flagship schools (Big 10 engineering schools, UF, UICUC, university of Washington), or international schools (Peking, tsinghua, top IIT’s), not Ivy League schools

This is not talked about enough and so accurate. I still deprioritize ivy and ivy adjacent kids for true sales roles. (I went to standord and sorry there’s an engrained intellectual snobbiness in us that makes most of us god awful at traditional sales)

There is nothing more overrated than a legacy from an Ivy. Born on second base and think they have hit double. I’m a UConn alum.

my dad started in sv selling fax machines and semiconductors in the early 80s. office in sj and ny. retired after a career in large contract management. he had a ba in latin American studies from university of Nebraska. sv was the one place where boomers were more liberal than gen x and millennials. man produced a porn while working on fingerprint systems and gave away a shitload of money to people in the middle east who needed wheelchairs. quit a year before his biggest retirement payout bc he refused to work a foxconn contract trump claimed would provide jobs he knew would never happen 🤘🏻 and of course, not one job came from it. just wasted land and site development. badasses that get no respect 🤌🏼

In the early 2010s like 98% of these companies were based in the Bay Area

Whoosh. Everybody missing the point focused on what is an ivy league school. Point being the state school grads and non-ivy’s delivered the sales results the Ivy League grads and drop outs couldn’t even dream of achieving without them.
