Ranking some of the greatest bodybuilders based purely on their training style and training philosophy, not their physiques or how successful they were, as evidently, the more famous you are, it seems the worse your training actually is. I’ve always found it interesting how differently the best bodybuilders trained. Some relied on extremely high volume and lots of exercises, while others focused much more on intensity, progression, execution and recovery. Yet, what I’ve found the most interesting is that a lot of bodybuilders have contradictory advice. Lee Haney says that he is a living example of how “stimulate don’t annihilate” works, yet Dorian Yates is the exact opposite of that, and arguably bigger as well as leaner. For me, I naturally prefer the lower-volume, high-effort approach, which is why Dorian Yates and Mike Mentzer rank so highly. I like the idea of making every working set count rather than doing endless sets just for the sake of doing more. For the sake of the pump, the burn, the feel. That doesn’t mean one style is automatically better than another though. These guys all trained differently and still managed to build incredible physiques, although mainly due to steroid usage. However, there are lessons to take from all of them, and I definitely wouldn’t say you need to copy any one bodybuilder’s exact routine. This is just my personal ranking based on the training principles I find most interesting and would actually want to use myself. #mrolympia #dorianyates #arnoldschwarzenneger #heavyduty #mikementzer
