i was in a coma for about 10 days, before the coma, my heart stopped for around 5 minutes and they had to resuscitate me. the cpr was so intense that four of my ribs were broken, but obviously i didn’t know any of that at the time. the actual time when my heart was stopped is a complete blank. no light, no tunnel, no voices, no fear, not even a feeling of darkness. those minutes just don’t exist in my memory. the coma was different though. i have scattered little fragments that are really hard to describe. sometimes it felt like being stuck in a heavy fog, almost floating somewhere without really knowing where my body was. i remember muffled voices, footsteps and hospital sounds that felt very far away, almost like hearing people underwater or while half asleep. one of the strongest fragments i have is hearing my mom crying and begging me to wake up. i wanted to react somehow, but i couldn’t move, open my eyes or speak. i didn’t really have normal dreams either. it was more like vague sensations, colors, sounds and emotions, then nothing again. i had absolutely no sense of time. when i finally started waking up, i was extremely confused and weak and couldn’t properly speak or move at first. for me, a coma wasn’t one long dream, it was mostly nothingness, interrupted by tiny strange fragments of awareness that i still remember years later.
