@true_story_vault0: In April 2021, Dr. Oğuz Basut of Bursa Uludağ University was performing surgery on a young woman with a salivary-gland tumor when he suddenly began feeling unwell. He had suffered food poisoning the previous day and had lost a significant amount of fluid. About 30 minutes into the operation, he became sweaty and realized that his blood pressure had dropped. Rather than leave the operating room, Basut asked his colleagues to start an IV through his foot, allowing him to receive fluids while continuing the surgery. Within about five minutes, his blood pressure began returning to normal. He went on to complete the operation successfully. A photograph of Basut continuing the procedure with an IV attached to his foot was later shared widely on social media. Bursa Uludağ University Rector Ahmet Saim Kılavuz publicly praised Basut and his colleagues for their dedication. But Basut himself rejected the idea that he had done anything extraordinary. He said he was simply fulfilling his responsibility to his patient and believed that other healthcare professionals would have done the same. The story became widely shared as an example of a doctor’s determination to care for his patient despite becoming ill himself. Follow for more incredible stories you won’t want to miss.
