Kurama was actually a nerf. Naruto was actually a prodigy like his dad but Kurama kept messing with his chakra flow throughout his whole childhood. making every jutsu he used harder to control than normal. It's why his shadow clones in OG were ass and his classmates made fun of him. If not for Kurama Naruto would have excelled in class. At least the physical part, written exam he's flunking.

Kurama did carry him tho lol it’s KURAMA CHAKRA MODE if he only had sage mode alone there’s no way he would have made it as far like pain for example had him pinned down but because of KURAMA he raged out got free let’s not forget the times he had his chakra cut off and was calling on Kurama to help as well
