Still think the ultron change was unnecessary. The next immediate movie was Antman. Just make the modern Antman and Wasp Hank and Janet and put that before Ultron, then have them in Age of Ultron and have Hank already working on an Ultron and then him and Tony finish it and that’s how Ultron gets made

Bad example, Hank Pym still helped build Ultron in the MCU. That’s why he’s in vision quest

If you want 1:1 then read the original stories. I find it the most hypocritical of comic book fans because there’s so many iterations and forms of these characters but they’ll be upset the live action isn’t 1:1. Comics are constantly changing origins/background of characters to make a specific story work.

I have no problem with changes. I already have the original story and I would love to see other interpretations. My issue I'd that because of the popularity of film over comics the audience is often disrespectful towards the comics and view it as a lesser medium of art. Not everyone obviously but part of the audience that loves these adaptations while be ashamed of the original is sizable and it makes me hesitant towards celebrating change because whatever that change is will become the dominant cultural understand and the comic will be forgotten at best or retroactively tarnished at worst

I mean they were never gonna tell all the stories from the comics so I want them to make changes to reinforce the stories they’re gonna tell, superman’s parents sending him to earth to “have a harem” help showing he’s good because he chooses to instead of a “greater purpose” for example, the changes in’s green lantern I’m loving even tho I’d love to see more of Hal, they’re doing changes that help the story

My head canon for Deadpool 2 is that Venessa is Lady Death after she dies. I still love what they did with Venessa 👌🏼👌🏼

Faithful adaptations are an affront to art and should never exist. Stories have to change to play to the strengths of their medium. Books can only be great if they use the advantages inherent to writing, animation can only be great with the advantages inherent to animation, etc. If you want the original, read the original

I fully understand your point, I have been trying to enjoy it for what it is but when you’re aware of how much social engineering goes into “entertainment” watching it with that in mind, shows just turn into self righteous pandering

I really try to judge things based on what they are, on their own terms, but there is always a part of me that can’t help but see the opportunity cost of some of these changes. I love the GOTG movies, they are great movies, but I can’t help but be sad at the loss of a version of Star-Lord and particularly his relationship with Nova that I very much preferred. That’s obviously a different situation because they literally changed the comics after the movie came out, but in the same way, even though it isn’t a particularly useful way of analyzing media, it does leave a real bad taste in my mouth, and it can sour my experience somewhat.

Funny thing is comic books aren't even faithful to other comic books. Things get changed in the comics all the time. All I care about was an adaptation is can you tell a good story that is faithful to the essence of the character and the comics.

due to the specific ways that comic books are, I agree with this when it comes to any adaptation of comic books. however, I do think a lot of times in a lot of other types of adaptations they make unnecessary changes that produces a worse product.

also frankly for me, I dont necessarily want to see thing be just a 1:1 retelling of the thing i already know. I love seeing new interpretations or plays on the thing i already know, it keeps things varied, and sometimes is good enough on its own it gwt added back into the original. if adaptations were only ever 1:1 we'd never have gotten a bunch of now really loved characters but namely Harley Quinn, X-23, and Terry McGinnis. alot of batman villains are only as popular and fleshed out now because TAS changed them too

Hell comics have multiple universes/timelines that are altered and changed and some of those are some of the best storylines
