Denim lasts A LOT without being washed so if it's not stinky or stained, it's okay not to wash it, you can spray some areas with alcohol mixed with cheap vodka if you want to take some smells out of it tho

Another pro tip if you’re like me and you have ocd (the germaphobe kind) don’t buy leather, pleather clothes. Jean or cloth everything. Instead of using paint, use bleach on a paintbrush. That way, there’s nothing to wash off. Also, hand sewing machine. Use thread in the same color as your patch to stitch the perimeter, THEN do the typical punk-style stitches. Can go in the washing machine inside out or in a pillow case just fine!!

I have only spot cleaned mine (mostly the collar because it gets fucking nasty) I have washed the vest of a friend after he forgot it at a bar. It happened to end up drenched in spilled beer and smelled fucking awful. The water was so dark even without scrubbing und just pushing it in in a bucket, but those kinds of clothing just aren't meant for being completely clean. Especially since they are the outer layers of an outfit, so almost no direct skin contact. Are people even washing their normal jackets regularly?

also you can use fabric softener or fabric glue mixed with acrylic paint! can confirm they both work quite well

leather usually lasts a lot longer than denim in terms of time between washes too!!! cheap disinfectant sprays are also helpful if you cant wash it just yet

I like this video a lot because most people hear punk say that we don't throw our DIY clothing in the wash because of the studs and the spikes and because a lot of us so with dental floss but that is not to say that we don't wash our clothes because we do. we just wash them differently either by disinfecting it with fabric sprays like you would use on a couch or a mattress or by actually washing them by hand in a tub or bin slightly delicately so that you don't risk damaging the items. but then also things like jackets and vests. if they are not making direct contact with your skin, you can get away with them being washed a little less than other things in the same way that like most people probably don't wash their winter coat

I put mine in a tub of lukewarm water with a little(!) laundry detergent, and just gently agitate it. repeat until the water isn't brown anymore.
