Hallucination example anyone?Hallucinations seem scary, but they are more common than you think and might even happen on a daily basis. You can even create one on purpose: With the Lilac Chaser for example! The Lilac Chaser was allegedly invented by vision expert Jeremy L. Hinton in 2005. This powerful optical illusion practically makes us hallucinate – so to see things, that aren’t really there. Here it’s the after-images of pink spots that look greenish. It’s not quite clear exactly how these after-images form in our heads. What’s known is that they originate in the retina, a part of the eye where the cells that make us see color are found. But research suggests that our brains also play an imporant role in how we see after-images. Other common hallucinations include phantom itches or hearing tones that may or may not be there. Neuroscientist Anil Seth at the University of Sussex in the UK says they are especially common when people are stressed or tired. And they usually aren’t a cause for worry. But sometimes these normal day-to-day hallucinations tip over into hearing or seeing things that are frightening, and disrupt normal life. Especially if there’s no way of controlling these hallucinations, it can be hint at serious conditions like schizophrenia, and could require professional help. #opticalillusions #mindblown #mindblowingfacts #dwscience #dwhealth #scienceexperiments #sciencetok #EduTok #hallucinate
