@sororityrushcoach: If you’re touring colleges this fall and already know you plan to rush, it’s time to start making those connections NOW! Here’s how to optimize your time on campus (in a natural, not forced way) in advance of recruitment: (PART 1!!) 1️⃣ Let friends and connections KNOW you’re coming! Before you get to campus, reach out to any friends in the chapters and any connections you might have. Let them know you’re coming to tour (and plan to rush) and that you’d LOVE to meet them for a coffee! Friends (and friends of friends), teammates, and older girls from school or camp are great places to start. Your teachers and counselor can also connect you with older girls from your school you might not have known super well. 2️⃣ Read the Panhellenic website and follow their Instagram account, but don’t stop there!! Before you visit, do your research. Find out when recruitment happens, how big sorority life is on campus, and whether there are official spring Panhellenic events for prospective students. For example, OU has a Greek Preview weekend in the spring where you can meet the girls. Texas A&M has a Panhellenic preview event as well. UT has Philofest, which allows PNMs to attend philanthropy events and meet sorority girls in the spring! Don’t miss your school’s version of these just because you don’t know. Sometimes these events are listed ahead of time, but sometimes they’re not. There’s also unofficial events taking place, but this depends on the school. Also, don’t assume there’s nothing happening just because it’s not listed on the Panhellenic website!! Always ask around when you’re there and chat with current students to get a feel for how things work. 3️⃣ Ask your school tour guide about Greek life! If a tour guide or student ambassador mentions being in a sorority, ask about her experience. Ask what surprised her about rush or what she wishes she knew beforehand. 4️⃣ Look cute, but campus-appropriate. Bring the cute athleisure, but pack a few outfits you’d be excited to wear for a coffee date, dinner, sorority house tour, or anything else that might pop up.
