My daughter(8) was declared brain dead and I had a team over 20 specialist for about a month trying to convince me to pull the plug and donate her organs. I fought tooth and nail… my daughter is now 17 and thriving about to graduate HS. An absolute miracle!

I have removed myself from the donor as well as my husband, they take the life to give a better life to others with no monetary compensation for the donor's family towards funeral expenses. yet they charge millions to the recipient.

My father was on the registry before removing himself prior to passing away unexpectedly. Well, lo and behold, a representative shows up before he even passes with a paper copy of an old ID claiming he was a donor and they were there to collect. Had we not found his recent ID, they would have never left us alone. They were so pushy even though we said no.

My brother had Covid. He was air evacuated to a bigger hospital where they sedated him , put him on a vent, did a tracheotomy and a few days later declared him brain dead. He was trying to remove the vent & they said it was just a latent reaction but he was definitely brain dead & we needed to allow them to pull the plug. We threatened to sue because of their determination. A few days later we made them stop sedating him, long story short… he recovered fully and was back to cattle ranching & riding horseback within a few weeks of going home. I’ve talked to several doctors since and they say there is no such thing as brain death while the body is still alive or nothing in the body would be able to function. My brother is still here and still ranching!

Now imagine the families who do not have individuals in the medical field. That don’t know what vitals mean. What the numbers mean. How to further test it. I can’t imagine the amount of people who were actually alive and could hear people saying they are brain dead. That must be the most frightening thing on earth.

this is actually a huge fear of mine... being in a state where I can hear everything around me but i cant move or speak up and them believing im dead and making plans to stop ventilation and such and I cant tell them "im still alive"

How on EARTH did they not even check his pupillary reflex or his plantar reflex as those are STANDARD parts of the brain death examination???

I am a periop nurse and have seen this way too many times. While I do advocate for donation, I am also weary about it. Families and loved ones must do their due diligence before they consent for it.

I worked in surgery & emergency medicine for 15+ yrs. Multiple docs, of MANY specialty's & ages, told me being "brain déad" is nearly impossible. I removed myself from the donor list.

so mistrusting of the whole transplant thing, because of the money factor. They make so much more money off a "brain dead" body than rehabilitating one. I could never say yes to organ donation.... for myself or my loved ones. or dna doesn't belong in another body.

I removed myself from the donor registry. I’m 100% for it but I want my husband to make the decision, not some random company. I did it after I saw a case where a woman’s husband died and she wanted her girls to come home from college to say goodbye first. She had to have a lawyer get involved and had other legal paperwork to get them to stop and just wait. They eventually donated organs but on their terms.
