@viewfinding_brian: I thrifted this camera and lens for something like $28 in completely unknown condition. (Story time!) “What do I test it with?” I asked myself. Expired film that I don’t particularly care about, so long as I can figure out whether the damn camera works. Well, guess my pleasantly surprised face off — these came out pretty damn good. The expired film does what expired film does. There’s some color shift toward green, plenty of grain, and a little unpredictability. But honestly? I like it. I rated this 2012-expired Kodak Ultramax 800 at ISO 400, giving it one extra stop of light. I have absolutely no idea how it was stored for the first part of its life, although all of my film lives in the fridge now. One stop was a conservative gamble: maybe enough compensation for its age, maybe not. Guess what? It was enough. But let’s talk about the other surprise here: This ridiculous 28–200mm do-everything Nikon lens. I did NOT expect much from it. I’ve always been skeptical of huge zoom ranges like this because you’re asking one lens—with a whole lot of moving glass—to do a whole lot of different things. It’s not particularly fast, either. But… this thing is actually pretty damn good. For a walk-around lens on the N80? 28mm to 200mm without changing lenses? I get it now. This could actually be a killer EDC setup. And speaking of the Nikon N80: THE DAMN THING WORKS. $28 thrift-store camera and lens. 14-year-expired Ultramax 800. Absolutely no idea if either one was going to cooperate. I’d call that a win. So what should I try through the N80 next? And would you shoot another roll of this expired Ultramax 800? #filmphotography #photographyeveryday #analogphotography #filmtiktok #35mmfilm
