@wander2gether: I recently watched a video of this exact location where someone blatantly went off trail for their “perfect video” and when people in the comments pointed out why that’s not okay, they were told to “cry about it” by the OP… Rather than boosting their content and crying about it to them, I’m choosing to educate the masses. Staying on designated trails isn’t just a suggestion. There are real reasons these guidelines exist, and they help protect both the environment and the people enjoying it. Here are some of the most common reasons why staying on trail matters: 1. Protects plants and habitats 2. Prevents erosion 3. Keeps you AND the people around you safe And I believe as people who choose to share these places on social media, we have a responsibility to uphold these principles. What we post can inspire thousands of people to visit the same places, so it’s important that we model responsible behavior rather than normalize practices that can harm them. You may not see the impact of one person stepping off trail, but when hundreds or thousands of people do the same thing, the damage adds up. Respect the trail, respect the habitat, and help set an example for the people who come after you. #minnesota #minnesotahiking #exploremn #cariboufalls #recreateresponsibly
