@philipblystonesoccer: Creativity Under Pressure // Winger Specific Session Great duo session with Xavier, a 2012 player, and Jayden, a 2009 player for SYC. Both guys play primarily out wide but can also move into the midfield, so this session gave us a chance to work on movements that apply to both positions. The first clip is Xavier hitting an absolute banger from distance. He’s such a talented, hardworking, and coachable player, and it’s been great seeing his confidence continue to grow in those finishing situations. Jayden is another phenomenal player who’s working his way back from injury. He’s very shifty, skillful, and creative on the ball, and both guys bring a great attitude every time we train. In this session, we worked on a few different turns and ways to deal with pressure. We used a spin turn, a shielding variation, and even worked on flicking the ball over the defender with a Neymar-style touch. Some reps turned into more of a through ball than a flick, but that’s part of the process. The goal is to get comfortable experimenting and finding different solutions. For wingers, especially when an outside back closes you down aggressively, being composed and creative is huge. You don’t always need the same move. Sometimes it’s about protecting the ball, sometimes turning away from pressure, and sometimes doing something unexpected. Really proud of both boys.
