Wasn't just haida that wore that armor. Some of your pictures are from the Gitxsan people. Like this picture, this was warrior chief Nehl'xt. The west coast is home to a lot of different tribes like the haida.

We traded and raided from the tips of Alaska all the way to Hawaii and New Zealand and everywhere in between. when king kamehameha was crowned the first king of Hawaii my nation was there they still have our gifts. some of my uncles still know the route we took to get to Hawaii and New Zealand. some Hawaiians can trace their lineage back to Haida gwaii some families can trace back up to 50+ generations from Haida gwaii to Hawaii that’s why some of them call us big brother or big sister.

Ja Haw aa = thank you very much for taking the time to look into my peoples history and our culture. As a Haida I can confirm what your saying is accurate and yes we did travel the coast line and up into river system to build trade routes with many other tribes in the PWN and much farther. What's not well known is we had ocean going vessel built more like modern catamaran with full sails and sleeping & cooking station. The armor was used for more than fighting wars, it was also used to signify status with in our tribe and house/clan your belonged to and your accomplishments. A modern day recreation of our old trade routes is call canoe jury

Correction here. That isn't a totem pole in front of the long house, that's actually a house post, one big indicator is that fact you can actually see the top, if it were totem, you wouldn't be able to see anything on the top standing from the bottom.

The Haida messed up the british/american prospectors pretty bad after they came for gold. One of the Haida brought a nugget to the Hudson Bay company. This spread fast (for the time). The Haida held well and caused the “Gold Rush” to fail. The naming of the island to “Queen Charlotte” was actually done to stake claim to the island to stop the influx of Americans from making a claim. (Glad it now named Haida Gwaii now) so sad small pox harmed this beautiful culture.
