When I immigrated to the US with my family in 2004, I held onto a lofty dream of returning to Nepal once I am a physician so I can help people. The world has changed significantly since then, but my dream to return remained. I have so much more to learn to get to the point of being able to help the underserved, but I am thrilled that I am taking the first step. The universe has permitted me to dream and I trust it will show me the next steps in its due time. I will forever be thankful to the US for the lessons, experiences, degrees and so much more. I have met some of the best mentors along my 21 year journey there and I truly think they were angels in disguise sent by a higher power. There were a few people who have told me to “go back to where [I] came from” and to them I want to happily say: “Yes ma’am/sir” I want to thank my mother and father for bringing us to the states. How did two late 20s, early 30s couple do all of that when their daughter at the age of 30 still feels like she’s 15, God only knows! I want to thank my mother for igniting and supporting my dream of becoming a doctor. I want to thank my husband who is my closest friend. I want to thank my father for being my confidant and person I can speak to about everything in my heart. My brother who has captured my heart and sisters who are afar but always in my silent tears and prayers. Virtually witnessing the genocide in Palestine has altered my perspective of the world and particularly the US, and has accelerated the timeline of my return to Nepal exponentially. I hope the US can be the good guy again. There is so much beauty in a strong nation sharing her strengths with the world. That was the America that my family wanted to a part of once, and I hope that will be America again, although the more I learn the more I realize maybe it was all a game of greed after all. I pray there is less greed, more love. More peace, no war. I pray we sacrifice for those that may be less able than us and help others get ahead of us. Trusting that the universe will take us exactly where we are meant to be and bring us what we need to evolve and become a better, kinder beings. #movingtonepal #nepal
