Bruh, when I was teaching I was so adamant to keep my students engaged. I did everything from providing brain breaks, incentives, candy, toys, turning lessons into games, and even offer snacks and free lunch from Chick fil A for kids who actively participated. 50% of all my classes still did not give a fuck about their education. 🥲

I think everyone who says "find a way to make a kid engaged" should try teaching. there are some kids who no matter what will not engage. and it's not because of school it's because of external factors. but I'm also the mindset all right leave them kids behind. it's not up to the school, there needs to be more systems in place and those systems won't come about until the kids are left behind.

I’m a teacher, not a comedian, actor, musician, clown, babysitter, singer… I’ll use humor/sarcasm socially but at the end of the day, they have access to too much short form dopamine hits and they can either do the work or FAFO academically

i try to show movies in class. man that was the best day ever back when i was in middle/high school (im 27) now i teach and watching a movie is “oh okay imma sit and talk the entire time and get in trouble” like bro just watch the movie the other option is book work (which they aren’t gonna do either)

Increased engagement won’t help them succeed beyond high school though. Teachers can try and make everything more entertaining for students and sure maybe they’ll learn from this in that specific class but what about when that same level of engagement isn’t present in college, their jobs, etc? It’s harder for them because they aren’t prepared for that reality of life beyond high school
