Berlin is the center of politics but if we’re talking about real economic power, places like Munich, Hamburg, or Stuttgart are more powerful

interestingly, in most large western European countries. the country on average would be noticeably poorer without the capital city.
however without berlin Germany is on average wealthier.

the status of Berlin as the center of power was in fact disputed quite a lot in the past 200 years

The Status of Berlin as the capital was in fact questioned as in the federal republic Bohn was the real center and capital. So after reunification some called for it to stay as such.

A question I’m interested in is why Germany never got a mega city of over 10m, despite being the second most populous European country.

Isn’t a big slice of Germany in Poland and Russia? Once Berlin would have been central within Germany.

I feel like if the capital moved to Bonn, it would feel less like union but more like annexation of the east by the west. Would definitely create even more tension today.

Please consider researching your videos more thoroughly. A few improvements: Berlin *was* called into question when it stopped being the BRD‘s capital between 1949 and 1989. The western German area you refer to for being very populated gained this status not through its rivers but its coal resources. In 1871 it wasn’t the kingdom of Prussia that was founded, it was the German empire which actually effectively ended Prussia as an independent body

what’s been missing is the fact that most of berlin’s industry like siemens, aeg and osram were moved to west germany after 1945. more industry in the sowjet sectors has been dismantled as reparations.
