This happened to me but with my dad. He was having some overnight scheduled test done. He had bad heart problems. I had a 1 year old and a 8 day old daughters. He called and asked me to come up to VA hospital to take him out for a smoke. I told him I just got off work and the kids were crying and I was exhausted. I said I would be up first thing in the morning. I got a call at 4am saying they found him in cardiac arrest on floor and got his heart going but weren’t sure how long he was without oxygen. The next 2 days they did test to comfort me but told me he had no brain activity. I sat there and watched my dad slowly die as the machines were turned off feeling like the lowest piece of shit on earth. That was 18 years ago and all I can ever see if my dad is him laying there as machines were turned off. Don’t take life for granted it goes quick.
