I love when series are not just basic, I love when characters actually feel real 🥹

I'm still on season 1(because I don't have Crunchyroll or any other anime streaming), but what stuck with me was Lady Lishu being only 14, a child in this very adult world and her ladies-in-wating being so cruel to her. As someone who likes studying history around the world, it sickens me how horrible lives were and still are for young girls

It's rare to see these kinds of anime especially when authors or animators now often oversexualize females or just focus on romance

I like how they don't sugar coat things. While the show is bright bubbly and colorful it at the same time explores those deep dark topics without sugar coating them

This is my favorite theme of the apothecary diaries I love how they explore way darker themes and didn't make it so "romanced" or a different type of anime

And that's despite the fact that the anime censors the animation somewhat compared to the manga and the novel.

I'll always remind people the reason the current emperor let Lishu back in the palace was because her father was going to marry her off after her mourning period.
