Maggie represents the everyday person affected by these big alien lantern showdowns, the whole reason her story was included was to show John still cared about the everyday people, that’s why he told guy he could take the stars and he would take the dirt

The original oath does take away because the oath represents the bureaucracy of the Guardians, which he rejected before, the new oath is him being a “rogue” guy who has broken his programming, not following the status quo anymore, just being good because he’s good
