Replication: companies run several domain controllers that copy the directory between them. If one dies, another takes over and nobody notices. And no, Active Directory is not Entra ID. AD runs the internal network. Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) is Microsoft's cloud identity service for apps like Microsoft 365.
