@interstellarupdates: Watch Kepler-438b .. once called the most Earth-like planet ever found Take a closer look at Kepler-438b, announced by NASA's Kepler mission in 2015. It is just slightly bigger than Earth and circles its red dwarf every 35 days, and back then it topped the lists as the most Earth-like planet known. Then astronomers caught its star firing powerful superflares, which could strip away its air. In this simulation it scores 69% with blue seas, thin air and an average of -24°C. Disclaimer: the planet's size, orbit and its star's superflares are real observations. Its mass, atmosphere and surface have not been measured; the 69% score, seas, air pressure and temperature are SpaceEngine's simulation. Explore the universe with Cosmos Updates, closer to distant planets, moons, stars and galaxies than ever before. Visualised in SpaceEngine. Scenes are simulations based on available data, not real photos. #Kepler438b #Exoplanet #EarthLikePlanet #HabitableZone #NASA
