Being a health-focused braider means knowing when to pour out education and knowing when to pivot when the integrity of your client’s hair and scalp is on the line. 🤎 My client originally booked Fulani braids, but after assessing her hair and scalp, we noticed some small areas of scabbing, primarily toward the back of her scalp, along with dryness throughout her hair. The top of her scalp was still healthy enough to braid, but I didn’t want to create additional irritation or friction where her scalp was already sensitive. So we pivoted. Instead of placing braiding hair directly against her scalp, we chose a headband braid style to minimize contact with the affected areas. We gently cleansed her hair, removed as much buildup as possible, and followed with a moisturizing mask. And y’all saw me take her to Ulta afterward because the education didn’t stop at the chair. 🤎 We talked about her hair routine, lifestyle, moisture retention, product choices, and some of the things that could be contributing to the dryness and buildup. The goal was to help her get her hair and scalp to a healthier place so that when she’s ready for her next braided style, her hair is better prepared to maintain moisture and handle the style comfortably. She may not have left with the exact style she originally booked, but she left educated, cared for, and seen. Because sometimes protecting the hair means changing the plan. Having a braid style is one thing, but having a braid style that promotes healthy hair is a whole other thing. 👏🏽 If you’ve been looking for a health-focused braider in Brandon, Florida and surrounding areas, look no further. My name is Naya ❤️ and I’d love to help you! #TampaBraider #BrandonBraider #TampaBraids #Explore
