My uncle had to respond to a newborn not breathing a week after my cousin was born. He went home and held onto my cousin until he went back to work. First responders heavily carry that grief with them when they can’t save someone.

I agree with you on that I'm a firefighter for eastpoint volunteer firedepartment I have a lot of people said that it easy to be a firefighter and I tell them until you know how it feels when you do CPR on someone and you lose them in your hands then you don't know how it is to be a firefighter or a EMT

add it being a suic*de to it also while you pump on them trying to get them back with them watching and you cant so in that moment you feel like a failure. its just heartbreaking knowing you tried and that family will never be the same. I still wouldn't trade my job for anything, greatest job in the world!

I'm just sorry for them having to hear me at 14 screaming to save my dad and them realizing they can't... watching their heart breaking as they try to speak to me being the only one there... I just want to tell them its not their fault

This is a weight that only a few strong people can carry. I know I couldn’t because I would go home and bawl my eyes out. And yet, this is daily for some people and show up to work and on to the next one.

I have so much respect for responders, In September of 2022 my Dad unexpectedly passed away.. I had just gotten to work and heard my mother say I need Amber now we got to go.. I thought I was just hearing things because I didn’t want to be at work but she came back and grabbed my arm and said let’s go almost in tears. We got out to the car and she told me that my Dad had texted saying “I can’t breathe call 911” when we got back to the house he was already gone and I knew it the moment I got told we had to go from work but I still had some hope.. all the police, ambulance people, firefighters were in the apartment my dad was on the bathroom floor where my 9 year old sister had found him.. all the responders were so strong and talking to me and my sisters trying to distract us but they were also in the moment trying not to break and cry..

Done it in the mining industry, it sucks doing CPR knowing the first responders aren’t gonna make it in time.

I’m a teenage girl and an epileptic I want to be a firefighter paramedic for the sheer fact that I’ve lived through it…the fear, the anxiety, the pain, the uncertainty, all of that lead me to being quiet and observing every single movement a trained professional made around me analyzing it and saving it as knowledge, hell I got to poke around in a fire truck recently as well asked the question…could I work if I’m disabled or have a disability…they didn’t have much of an answer for me…so im still doing research into it…i respect the work you do stay safe
