Let’s also not forget how creaky floors and how rattley door handles used to be. I have visited the Ford Theater Museum and even the curator herself said that in the theaters prime days visitors were required to remain seated until intermissions due to how creaky the upper floors were. Which means John Wilkes Booth had to have already been in the theater booth before the Lincoln family entered the theater booth, for no one to have heard the floor creaking behind them.
