@baseball_instincts: The padres brewers game had multiple endings that could have happened. But the most important part is it sparked a great debate about the rule. Should the rule change? How would you change it? The rule states that if fair and it’s an object in fair territory and is caught it’s an out. #baseballcoach #baseball #baseballlife
there is zero percent chance that this was gonna be a HR either way…

you could see when it hit the roof that if there wasn’t one that ball would’ve traveled at least another ten feet there’s no way it’s not a home run

For anyone confused light blue is what actually happened all the others are possible outcomes if there was nothing there and in only one case does the ball end up a homerun

Both teams have the same rules and same conditions. The rule was in Place before this happened so you go with the rule!

That’s why the ground rules are what they are. No speculation. The ball went where is went. Caught or not.

what's the rule with fan interface? should that apply from now on in some stadiums? or some variation if the dome is struck past a certain line? just a thought. tough break for real though

the brewers didnt just get the roof, not like it just snuck up and smacked the ball down

the yellow line gets snagged by the outfielder 9/10 times minimum that close to the fence. the more realistic outcome is foul ball. regardless both teams knew the rules and played under them. sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. if that wasn't caught it was a fair ball and the runner could advance so chourio did exactly what he needed to do. not sorry.

Do we do plots when a ball hits the green monster? Plot where a ball would have gone if that part of ballpark wasn’t there? Balls hit parts of ballparks, and every ballpark is different.

so if a high fly ball bounces off a wall and you catch it is it an out now?

I dont understand why it wasn't called dead. in the NHL if the puck its anything above the ice (jumbotron, ductwork, support beams, a flag, etc...) play is immediately stopped and a faceoff occurs

Its 100% without question an out. It is interesting that even the homerun out come churrio probably still has a play on it

I believe the rule should change. The path of the ball was altered by an object that wouldn’t be there if it had been an open field. I think “ball is dead, replay the pitch”

it landed there because of it crashing against the roof.... why is this people so adamant saying it wasn't a homerun without the roof
