Zero is natural bc you can find a apple tree with 0 apples

There are only three "natural" numbers, that is, numbers found in nature. 0, 1, and many.

0 is actually not a natural number because its easier to write \mathbb{N}_0 then \mathbb{N}\setminus {0}

I also just like zero in the natural numbers because then it’s the set of all finite cardinality’s

currently teaching abstract algebra RN and we do not take zero to be a natural number. this absolutely makes a lot of definitions very easy to state.

So it's funny because in maths, French people use different conventions. Zero is both positive and negative. We don't say "nonnegative", we say "positive" if it contains zero and "strictly positive" if zero is not included. N contains zero but N* does not. Never heard of W.

I've come to like Z_{>0} or N_{>0} more than Z^+ because that collides with A^+ as the set of nonempty sequences/words.

Sure… but natural numbers are specifically positive whole numbers used for counting. Zero IS used for counting, depending on the style, but zero is neither positive nor negative, so it doesn’t qualify. Natural in this context does not mean what people project onto it.

i agree with you. and i get that the set of natural numbers does not include 0, but we make the definitions. 0 is less of a whole number than it is a natural number, so just linguistically it makes more sense. yes math is math but we discuss it with language so it does matter. also sometimes people already include 0 when they reference the natural numbers so it's just confusing to talk about for no reason

WRONG. By Europe standard, 0 is NOT in the N set of numbers, if you want to include it, just write N0 (0 is smaller and on the bottom)
