Every contract signed by the Government of Kenya is a public document and should be made public. I have given my boss advice on many issues, including making the contracts public. But the buck stops with him." Fast forward to 2026, when Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and civil society groups demanded the release of the official agreement for the Ksh 2.2 trillion Dangote Oil Refinery deal in Lamu. The President responded by claiming that exposing the contract documents directly would expose the investor to "extortion" and "court harassment," telling critics to use parliamentary channels or go to court instead. The underlying issue remains: Why is transparency essential when you're looking for votes, but a security threat when you hold the pen? What do you think?
